As co-hosts of the San Diego Whaley House Museum Paranormal Investigation Tour, it's always gratifying to have guest investigators experience a bit of the high strangeness the sdGH team knows exists in the infamously haunted location.
During October 2011's tour,
guests Kiayanna P., her husband and their two friends from San Diego, California, certainly exited the Whaley front doors believers. As Kiayanna details in this tour spotlight, three different types of anomalous activity was encountered: Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP), experimental electronic ITC communication and photos with unexplained content.
It's rare that so much is volunteered by the premises in such a short amount of time. The Whaleys must have been extra energetic that pre-Halloween weekend.

 As told by Kiayanna: "During an organized group EVP session within the dining room, we placed our digital recorders onto the dining and asked questions hoping for spirit responses. After reviewing my recordings with some help from the sdGH team, it was found I captured an EVP of Mr. Tanner speaking "Tanner" after it's asked who might be with us in the room. It's obvious and clear, so I was very excited to know that Mr. Tanner was communicating with us! |

| Human nature drives our curiosity of the unknown, the unexplained and what happens to us after we die. We fear death because we don't understand it. Why do some chose to stay in spirit form on this earth plane instead of moving on to what lays beyond? It's something that has fascinated me since childhood after having personal experiences growing up that I simply could not explain or understand. This has paved my path to explore the truth and try to capture evidence of the paranormal.
My husband and I, along with friends, Lori & Aaron, attended October 2011's Whaley House Museum Paranormal Investigation Tour co-hosted by The San Diego Ghost Hunters. We were greeted by the museum staff as we entered the courtroom where house's history, its spirit inhabitant activity and captured evidence from previous investigations were shared. After this introduction, the tour was split in two groups with us trekking upstairs to investigate the bedrooms & theatre. Lori was using a KII meter (an electromagnetic field detector) and I was taking photographs of everything within the house and used my digital recorder the entire night.

Inside the master bedroom, sdGH founder, Maritza, was using an experimental electronic speaking device, the Ovilus, in an attempt to communicate with any spirits that might be present. After the four of us entered the room, the Ovilus spoke "Aaron" a couple of times and then named his family members including the last name, "Potter", an ancestor who was recently researched! We believe it might have been Aaron's grandfather William coming thru to communicate. How exciting and strange at the same time!

During an organized group EVP session within the dining room, we placed our digital recorders onto the dining table. Just then, the house's piercing fire alarm went-off, startling us all! It was explained that some feel Mr. Whaley likes to set-off the museum's alarms when he is tired of having guests and would like to be left alone. After it was reset, we all asked questions hoping for spirit responses. After reviewing my recordings with some help from the sdGH team, it was found I captured an EVP of Mr. Tanner, saying "Tanner" after it's asked who might be with us in the room. It's obvious and clear, so I was very excited to know that Mr. Tanner was communicating with us!
The third and final photo presents no mass.

After our EVP session ended, the four of us went back upstairs and re-entered the master bedroom to meet up with Maritza. The Ovilus once again said "Aaron". It seemed to know we were back -- amazing! Something drew my attention to a chair and table next to the room's fireplace so I started taking photos. On review, you can see a dark mass starting to form at the bottom of the first photo. In the second,it blocks out the entire bottom of the chair and basket, but the fireplace is clearly visible. In the third photo, the mass is gone but a small orb is visible at the bottom right! This was some of the best paranormal evidence I've captured to date!

As part of the Whaley Tour, team founder, Maritza, demonstrates experimental Instrumental Trans-Communication (ITC) devices to guest investigators. Among them, the Ovilus purports to work on the the basis of assigning pre-programmed dictionary words by environmental EMF frequencies that are manipulated by spirits. The result is the Ovilus "speaking" single words.
Kiayanna's friend, Aaron, was the recipient of some interesting communications from the Ovilus the night of the group's attendance. His name was said several times as was his aunt's (Marion -- also the name of the Whaley's granddaughter), his grandfather's (Will), his mother's (Sarah's) and not pointed-out by Aaron in the recording, "Potter", an ancestral name just discovered weeks before during genealogy research. None of these proper names spoken by the Ovilus are in it's dictionary of 512 words. |
